Girls together on Brian's birthday

We had a good weekend this past week.  It was Brian's birthday on Saturday and he was cooking a great meal - back ribs, asparagus, fried potatoes in the air fryer and coleslaw.  I had frozen some carrot cake and cream cheese icing so I made up a small cake to go with his delicious meal.  Sylvia came Friday and Suzanne arrived on Saturday morning.  It is always wonderful to have family over!!  The three of us decided to see the Hail Mary Project movie - we had all read the book and Sal and Brian had seen it a few weeks ago when we were in Calgary.  We went to the 2:40 pm show after lunch.  We did leave a little early and checked out a second hand store on our way in.  The movie was excellent!  I did find that having read the book helped to flesh out the inner dialogue of the main characters.  It is all about hope and the value of love and connection!!  We got home in time to have supper with Brian.  We sorted through items Suzanne brought for Fabric sale and Sylvia was taking her items for the second hand store and REUSE in Edmonton.  Therese

Hail in April!!

We have had an interesting spring with snow and thaw which happened at least 4 times.  After one of the thawing days I thought I heard rain but in the end it was a hailstorm that came through on April 14th.  We need the moisture so much so no regrets with it coming down - it was just surprising to see hail instead of rain.

We have had a few more rain showers and the ground is starting to open up but we do need a few days of slow steady rain to clean up the streets and sidewalks and freshen up the landscape.

Easter in Calgary

We went to Calgary on Friday to celebrate Easter and Brian's birthday while Richard was home.  It was great to see all of them.  Kale brought his bass guitar which he is playing with the school band.  He has been practicing and showed us a video of his school band practice with everyone playing their instruments.  Pretty good for having started in January.  The guitar ended up with a problem but fortunately with so many capable people around and a few tools it was fixed and Kale was back to practicing!

I made carrot cake for the birthday celebration and Brian bought pizza.  Richard found a great deal at Pizza Hut - buy one and get another for $1.  So we ordered 6 pizza and there was enough to send a few pieces home with Suzanne and Kale.  Mr. Farshori passed away on Tuesday night and was buried on Wednesday so it had been a stressful week at their house.  Brian received two bottles of scotch and a fun puzzle!!!

Kale dressed as Morpheus from the matrix. It works so well with his guitar.  He is always so well dressed and really enjoyed himself.  We had some excellent treat for breakfast - one was filled with shrimp and the other was pork meatballs.  Both very delicious! The food is always very good!!

TT and Selina enjoyed pizza for lunch.  Stephany suggested a walk after lunch.  Brian and Sal had gone to see the Hail Mary Project at Crowfoot so we headed out. It was beautiful and warm.  We saw ducks and on our way back we came across the end of an Easter Egg Hunt celebration.  The line up for the fire truck and the face painting were long but the goats well made up for the lack of the other two.  Selina decided that the goat with two horns was a double unicorn and it was her favorite.

We played games - Monopoly, Snakes and Ladders and a race game.  We warmed up the turkey and the rest of the Easter meal and enjoyed a feast.  Everyone brought something to share and everyone ate well.  We are blessed to have had the time to spend with part of our family!!!!

Richard's 600 piece puzzle

Brian has been working on this puzzle since the beginning of the year and has finally finished it!!  Richard started it years ago when he was still living in his condo and managed to get the castle made.  It came to our house in large sections and Brian has finished the sky and trees.  It has a repeat in the diecutting which means that you can place a piece in an opening and it fits perfectly but the colours are wrong.  In the sky and trees it was more difficult to assess if the colours were wrong so several times Brian would get to a spot where things were not working well and only put in one or two pieces in a couple of hours.  At the end he had two pieces that fit in the holes but were the wrong texture in the green area.  When we laid it out to take this picture it became clear where the mistakes had been made and he was able to remove the wrong ones and put the others in place and they perfectly filled the remaining two spaces!!! All done!  It is headed back to his house in sections this week!!  The cardboards are very well sealed as to not cause any upset during transport!!   Therese

Going on a train ride

When Sylvia was here last week we decided to take a train ride for our birthday!!  We are taking the steam train from Stettler to Big Valley.  We will have a meal at Big Valley and get a chance visit the museum and general store before we head back to Stettler.  Sylvia has taken this train ride before with Madeleine and Robert, the boys (Gregory and Douglas) and Mom and Dad.  She was game to go again. We chose an adult only ride and are really looking forward to our little adventure.  We try to do something together for our birthdays.  One year we took the train in Edmonton that goes over the High Level Bridge.  Therese
