Storm with hail - missed us!!

The sky was dark and it certainly was looking like hail and then our phones went off to say that the storm was coming and bringing hail as large as baseballs were possible.  I put ice cream pails over my tomato plants and prayed that the hail would be smaller or not come at all.

We were blessed as we got a bit of rain and then the storm was passed us and the sun came out again.

Others were not so lucky and 2" hail was reported in several places!!!!

Canned 14 stubby gem jars of haskapp, apple and rhubarb

I canned two batches of fruit compote yesterday after picking the 2 cups of haskaps. I brought up the 2025 haskaps, a bag of apples and two bags of rhubarb from last year.  I put 1.5 bags of haskaps with 1 bag of rhubarb and a half bag of apples for each batch.  I added about 1/2 cup of honey and about 7 tablespoons of lemon juice to increase the acidity.  I processed them for 30 minutes.  It is really nice to have fruit in the cold room instead of the freezer.  I will need the freezer room for raspberries!!!

Haskapps - 2 cups this picking

I picked the haskapps again yesterday and only got two cups.  It seems like less than last year.  They may have been late getting pollinated or rained out.  Either way this is what it is for this year.  I may pick one more time but there were only a few green ones left.

Canada Day!! Had lunch at the Legion

Happy Canada Day!!  It was raining this morning so we thought we would have to abandon our plans to go to the Legion for lunch.  We were rewarded with blue skies by noon so we walked down and had lunch.  Very good burgers!!  We did miss the parade.  Brian is making jambalaya for supper so we will be eating good tonight!!  Brian put up his new flag today - once a year!!!
