Finisihed the harvesting at the garden plot

The garden plot is empty!!  We technically had until Thanksgiving Monday to have it all out.  I went one night almost two weeks ago and pulled everything when they were predicting killing frost.  As it turned out, we got rain instead but I will still very happy to have removed everything in ideal ground conditions.  The carrots, beets and parsnips came out easily and were not too caked with dirt.  It did take a few days to get them all cleaned but I have four bags of carrots, one bucket of beets ( Neighbours got a few and I put the extra on Kijiji for free and they were gone within an hour) and two bags of parsnips.  I have a full bucket of potatoes as well.  The weather has been really nice for drying the vegetables!!!  You can see in the photo that it was quite late by the time I was done but that is the way it goes when you are a "farmer".

Garden plot!

Just a photo of my garden plot.  I cleaned up all the weeds last week and then took a photo!!!  One little stub of a cucumber plant about 3" tall is all that has survived.  Not sure it will have time to make anything of itself but I will keep encouraging it!!  The beet leaves are still a bit ratty from the hail but everything is bouncing back.  I thinned my beets and carrots.  The few parsnips that came up are doing well and the carrots I planted in between are about 3" tall.  Not sure they have time to do much either but if nothing else they will be snacks in October!!       Therese

Garden Plot

I have rented a garden plot for growing my root vegetables.  It is 10' x 20' and I have planted three different potatoes - blue, yellow and red, zuchinni, beets, parsnips, carrots and onions. Everything is now up and I just put in my tomatoes the other day.  So far, not too many weeds and I am hoping to stay ahead of them as the season goes on.  It is about 3.5 kms from home - about a 40 minutes walk - shorter on my bike!!  There is a cistern for water which is wonderful - you can just see the shadow of it in the photo - real close!
